From the workshop

A NOTE FROM THE WORKSHOP

A family workshop. Since 1949.

Bergerie was opened in Georgetown the year Truman was sworn in for his second term. Today Antonio and his team still cut every pattern by hand, still hand-tie every spring, still treat every chair as the heirloom it will become. The only thing that has changed in seventy-five years is the address.

Frequently asked

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. Walk in to the workshop at 3133 Colvin Street any weekday 9–6 or Saturday 9–4, or schedule an in-home consultation for projects in the DC metro area. Bring photos and dimensions and we will give you a written estimate.

How long does a typical project take?

Bespoke upholstery on a standard sofa or pair of chairs runs four to six weeks once fabric is in hand. Antique restoration depends on condition — Antonio will give you a realistic timeline at consultation.

Do you work with my interior designer?

Constantly. We have ongoing relationships with designers across the DC metro and regularly fabricate custom pieces from designer specifications.

Where are you located, and what are your hours?

Our workshop is at 3133 Colvin Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays. We serve clients throughout Northern Virginia, the District, and Maryland.

What does it cost?

Every piece is quoted individually because materials and labor vary widely. As a benchmark, a quality reupholster on a standard wingback chair typically runs $900 to $1,800 plus fabric. Antique restoration starts around $400. Antonio will give you a firm quote in person.
